New Old Cold War – is a large-scale international exhibition project with participation of the famous Russian and International artists from the post soviet countries.
The main theme of the project is the phenomenon of the Cold War.
In present day`s vocabulary the expression ‘Cold War’ is a significant issue again. Paradoxical as it is, after almost 20 years since the Iron Curtain`s fall, we are discussing again the geopolitical confrontation problems, ideological conflicts and wars for global influence. Today`s world is divided again by the “friend-or-foe” principle.
Russian and Eastern European artists who lived under the domination of totalitarian ideology have understood better than any other nations that ideology can be bereaved of its power by deconstructing its aesthetical and rhetorical basis.
What are the signs of the New Cold War? What symbolic language does it use?
This project tries to answer these questions. Some participants from the elder generation have their own experience of the Cold War, others - the younger ones – apply this term to the present day situation.
The Project is supported by Andrey and Lana Grinev
